US national security adviser visits Kyiv unannounced on Friday

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan paid an impromptu visit to Kyiv on Friday, where he met with the president of that country, Volodymyr Zelensky, and other important figures.

Sullivan underscored US support for Ukrainians “as they defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, in a statement.

Sullivan unveiled a new $400 million security assistance package for Ukraine in Kyiv. It comprises drones, repaired surface-to-air missiles, and restored T-72 tanks.

He added that the US will keep aiding Ukraine economically and humanitarianly:

“The United States is going to be with Ukraine for as long as it takes in this fight. There will be no wavering, no flagging, no flinching in our support as we go forward.”
Sullivan continued by saying that if Russia decided to stop fighting and end its occupation, the war would likely end quickly.
“And that’s precisely what it should do from our perspective,” he told reporters.
