Mandy Teefey, Selena Gomez’s mother, worried her daughter would not live after her 2016 mental breakdown during the Revival tour.

In the new documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me by Only Murders in the Building, the actor’s mother discusses the moment she learned of Gomez’s breakdown.

“We heard about her mental breakdown through TMZ. They called me and wanted to know what my daughter was doing in the hospital with a nervous breakdown,” Teefey relates in the film.

The 46-year-old continued, “She didn’t want anything to do with me and I was scared she was going to die.”

Gomez’s mental health difficulties, a kidney transplant caused by lupus, and a bipolar diagnosis will be explored in the upcoming film on her life.

On Friday, Apple TV+ will debut the six-year-long documentary shot by filmmaker Alek Keshishian.
