In the much-anticipated fifth season of the Netflix drama series The Crown, which is coming up soon, Elizabeth Debicki is set to play Princess Diana.

 Before the fifth season premieres on November 9, Debicki talked about what it was like to play the late Princess of Wales and make her famous “revenge dress” again.

 The famous outfit was worn by Diana in 1994 at a Vanity Fair party at London’s Serpentine Gallery. The Australian actress talked about the “pressure” of wearing it.

“There was stress. It’s a complicated dress,” she said in a Vogue series called “Life in Looks.”

“I let the fittings happen around me while I thought about what the dress meant.” Why this dress? She’d had it for two or three years. “It was super risqué at the time.” Debicki told.

“She was claiming the space,” she said, adding, “The way she walked out of that car, the luminosity, the strength of her as that car door opened, she was so fast and so forward.”

Debicki noted, “It’s an extraordinary thing to watch.” “To decide what you’re saying about yourself through fashion… it was a currency—an incredibly powerful currency.”

In season five, Debicki has taken over for Emma Corrin as Diana. “Everyone in my life texted me about this dress when they heard that I was going to play this part,” she said.

“That’s when I started to realise how symbolic this dress is to people,” she said.

The fifth season of The Crown is about the troubled 1990s, when Charles and Diana’s marriage fell apart in a very public way. Prince Charles will also be played by Dominic West, who will share the role with Debicki.
