Stefanos Tsitsipas, the fifth-ranked player in the world, defeated Britain’s Dan Evans by a score of 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday to secure his spot in the third round of the Paris Masters.

The 24-year-old Greek, whose greatest Bercy result was a quarterfinal defeat to Novak Djokovic in 2019, will face either Cameron Norrie, a fellow Briton, or Corentin Moutet, a Frenchman, in the round of 16.

Tsitsipas got the advantage over Evans right away and won in 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Evans was finding it difficult to get into the match and made a lot of unforced errors, so Tsitsipas got the initiative by breaking Evans’ first serve game in each set.

Evans was unable to force more than one break point thanks to his own serve; Tsitsipas saved it all.

Regardless matter how well he does in Paris, the Greek, who won this year’s Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo in April and reached the final in Cincinnati in August, will play in the ATP Finals in Turin later this month.

Italian Lorenzo Musetti defeated Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-2 to go to the round of 16 and face third-seeded Casper Ruud.
