Night Riders by Justin Chon arrives on Prime Video

  • Night Riders is the upcoming movie of Justin Chon.
  • It is described as a “gritty crime thriller”.
  • The casting is not announced yet.

Night Riders, the next film from actor and filmmaker Justin Chon, has received formal support from Prime Video, according to sources.

Stacey Snider, co-founder of Chon and Sister and the company’s CEO, is producing the film. She helped get The Greatest Showman and the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody approved.

The script, written and directed by Chon, is based on an original idea by the director and is described as a “gritty crime thriller” taking place in Hawaii in the not-too-distant future.

Although casting has not yet been announced, Night Riders’ synopsis portrays two buddies who have a close, brotherly relationship.

The two friends’ ride-or-die relationship is put to the test when one of them is willing to go beyond the bounds of propriety in their desire for dominance.

Chon’s sixth feature film effort will be Night Riders, however the writer-director has already received a good share of praise for his previous picture Blue Bayou.

Blue Bayou, which had its world premiere at Cannes last year, was written, directed, and featured Alicia Vikander and Chon.

Prior to that, the triple threat emerging star had the Sundance Film Festival premiere of his second full-length drama, Gook, for which he won the Best of Next Audience Award.

Chon’s work typically focuses on crisp, intimate dramas with a focus on Korean-American lives, making Night Riders his first attempt at a thriller idea.

Chon is now in post-production on his independent feature Jamojaya with Red Hot Chili Peppers leader Anthony Kiedis and is directing and executive producing the pilot episode of the upcoming Apple TV+ series Chief of War, starring Jason Momoa of Aquaman.

In Jamojaya, a teenage rapper’s ascent to popularity is followed as he attempts to hire a US manager and label to take over the duties that up until that moment had been handled by his father.

Chon also directed four episodes of the Apple TV+ series Pachinko, one of his other major television accomplishments.

Chon began his career as an actor before establishing himself as a powerful filmmaker with a keen eye for the dramatic.

Chon has been involved in almost every facet of the business, from walk-on parts in popular shows like The O.C. and playing Eric in the Twilight trilogy to lending his voice to the animated comedy The Casagrandes.

The director tells Character Media that, despite his captivating performances in movies like Blue Bayou and Gook, “Stepping behind the camera, I have control over the stories that get put out into the world.”

But if Chon keeps up his recent pattern of writing, directing, and acting, we might see him in both roles for Night Riders.

The movie has no firm release date as of yet, so keep checking Collider for updates. The Blue Bayou movie trailer can be seen below:
