PERTH, AUSTRALIA: Despite having COVID, Australia’s star bowler Adam Zampa can still play in their Twenty20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka later on Tuesday in Perth, according to the hosts.

The 30-year-old leg-spinner is permitted to participate but will have to travel separately from the rest of the team and be placed somewhere from his teammates.

“Zampa’s symptoms are improving and are now reported as minor in severity,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

“A decision will be made (on his selection) closer to the toss,” CA added.

“No other Australian squad members or staff have reported symptoms.”

Despite having COVID, Ireland’s George Dockrell played on Sunday in Hobart against the Asian champions Sri Lanka.

Australia, the defending champion, will try to avenge their opening setback to New Zealand against Sri Lanka in a competitive Group 1 that also includes England.
