James Corden returned to The Late Late Show on Monday night. He kicked off the episode by responding to Keith McNally’s accusations against him.

The 44-year-old late-night show presenter admitted to viewers that it was never his “intention” to enrage diners at the Balthazar restaurant in New York City and that he would like to apologize in person if he is permitted to return.

“There were rumours about my being barred from a restaurant last week. At the beginning of his show, he said, “And at the time I pondered, you know, tweeting about it or Instagramming about it. He also added that he likes to adopt a “British mindset” about things, such as, “Keep calm and keep on” and “Never complain, never explain.”

He however continued, “On Saturday, my father made this point clear to me, saying, “Son, well, you did complain, so you might need to explain.” Look, you have to accept responsibility for your mistakes. So, if it’s acceptable, I’d want to tell you what happened.”

When Corden was in New York City, he ate with pals at one of his “absolutely favourite restaurants,” and after explaining her food sensitivities, Julia Carey received food that “she was allergic to,” according to Corden.

“In the heat of the moment, I made a sarcastic harsh comment about preparing it myself,” Corden stated after it repeatedly came back incorrect. Added he, “I sincerely regret making that remark. I am aware of the challenges a server faces. I spent years working shifts at eateries.”

Added he, “Anyone who performs such work has my undying regard and appreciation. And the staff at that restaurant is outstanding. I adore it there because of this.”

When the staff handed out champagne “as an apology,” according to Corden, he believed the situation was resolved.

“I’ve been acting as though I didn’t violate any laws, am I right? But in actuality, I said something inappropriate and unpleasant. It was a pointless remark. It was disrespectful toward the server, “added he.

Corden claimed that he “quickly” obtained McNally’s phone number after the restaurant’s owner announced that Corden had been kicked out in order to explain the situation.

“We spoke well. He was grateful for the call. I was glad we were able to talk things out, and I thought we handled it in private, you know?” stated Corden. But by this time, the news had spread, and many were angry.

On October 17, McNally criticized Corden for his conduct at Balthazar. Since the restaurant’s opening 25 years ago, according to McNally, 71, Corden has been “the most aggressive customer to my Balthazar employees.”

Initially criticizing Corden on Instagram, McNally described how the waitstaff were treated like “funny men” on two visits to Balthazar.

Earlier last month, McNally said that Corden had complained about his wife Carey’s egg yolk omelette in another instance. Several minutes after they received their lunch, McNally said on Instagram, “James called their waiter, M. K. and told her there was a little amount of egg white intermingled with the egg yolk.” “G, the floor manager, was instructed by M. K. The dish was redone by the kitchen, but sadly it was served with home fries rather than a salad.”

“At that point, James Corden started screaming angrily at the waiter, telling him, “You can’t perform your job! You are unable to carry out your duties! I might as well head to the kitchen and make the omelette myself.” McNally went on.

The waitress, he claimed, was “very sorry and dragged G. over to the table. After he gave the dish back, everything was alright. As a peacemaker, he offered them promotional Champagne glasses. According to G., Corden was kind with him but rude to the server. Despite being rattled, M.K. finished her shift in a professional manner.”
