Matthew Perry admitted that he broke up with her in the 1990s because he believed he would “never be enough” for Julia Roberts.

In his new memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the 53-year-old actor was open about how his own mental instability caused their relationship to collapse after just two months.

By the time Roberts made a surprise appearance on an episode of the popular sitcom, the “Friends” star claims that he and the 54-year-old actress had already begun dating. However, things swiftly went south.

It had been too much for me to date Julia Roberts. In an excerpt from his essay that was published by the Times UK, Perry expressed his belief that the “Pretty Woman” actress was “slumming it” by dating him, saying, “I had been continually certain that she was going to break up with me.”

“Why wouldn’t she? I was broken, bent, and unlovable; I was not enough and I could never be enough. I broke up with the gorgeous and intelligent Julia Roberts instead of going through the pain of losing her, he admitted.

The “Whole Nine Yards” actor claims he is unable to express the confusion on her face as a result of their breakup.
The brief affair developed as a result of Roberts’ declaration that she would “only do the show” if she could participate in Perry’s character’s plot. Roberts later wed Danny Moder.

Following that, Perry, who portrayed Chandler Bing on the popular program, sent the Oscar-winning actress a number of roses and lovely messages, along with a paper on quantum physics, in an attempt to “woo” her.

In addition to agreeing to appear on the show, Julia sent me a present of a ton of bagels. I did allow her in, both literally and figuratively, and a romance developed.

Perry was nevertheless also battling drug and alcohol addiction while appearing on one of the most popular TV shows and dating the best of Hollywood.

The actor, who played the title role on the comedy from 1994 to 2004, had to enter rehab twice during the show’s ten-year run, including after shooting the memorable scene in which his character married Courteney Cox’s Monica Geller.

After filming the Season 7 finale, Perry said in an interview with the New York Times on Sunday that he was “taken back to the treatment center… in a pickup vehicle commanded by a sober technician.”

He claimed, “[I was] at the height of my highest point in ‘Friends,’ the highest point in my career, the iconic moment on the legendary show,” adding that his “exhausting” opiate addiction destroyed his capacity to enjoy being on the NBC sitcom.

His addiction had a negative impact on both his financial situation and his profession.

Regarding his decades-long battle, which began when he was just 14 years old, he told the publication, “I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to be sober.”

The actor was using “55 Vicodin a day,” along with “Methadone, Xanax,” and “a whole quart of vodka” at the height of his addiction.

The actor “almost died” a few years ago when his colon burst, and doctors told him he had a “2 percent” chance of surviving because of the excessive drug use.

The actor has been sober for the past 18 months thanks to his near-death experience and the necessity to wear a colostomy bag for nine months.

He told, “The next time you think about taking OxyContin, just think about having a colostomy bag for the rest of your life.” I slid through a small window that then opened, saying, “I no longer want OxyContin.”
