Rise of the Damned
  • A trailer for R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned has been released.
  • The prequel arrives over ten years after the original film.
  • Together with Andrew Klein, director Paul Leyden wrote the script.

A trailer for R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned has just been published if you’re looking for the ideal Western/supernatural movie for your upcoming movie night.

The prequel is prepared to transport viewers to the afterlife and round up some outlaws with more gunplay and slapstick humour than before.

Sheriff Roy Pulsipher (Jeffrey Donovan), who is shot in the wrong place and dies, is reintroduced to us in the trailer.

Immediately after arriving, he is introduced to his new companion Jeanne (Penelope Mitchell), with whom he will work to defeat all of Hell’s evil guys.

Sheriff Roy’s primary objectives are to see his daughter and solve the mystery surrounding his own murder, but as a side mission, he must stop a strong demon determined to open a portal to the underworld.

The movie also features Tilly Keeper from EastEnders, Kerry Knuppe from Voodoo Possession, Richard Fleeshman from Call the Midwife, Jake Choi from Single Parents, and Craige Els in addition to Donovan from Burn Notice and Mitchell from The Vampire Diaries (Ripper Street).

Together with Andrew Klein, director Paul Leyden (Cleaners) wrote the script.

The prequel was unexpectedly created after receiving a generally unfavorable response and arrives over ten years after the original film, R.I.P.D.

Despite having an all-star cast that featured Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Marisa Miller, and Mary-Louise Parker, the movie didn’t exactly blow everyone away at the box office, but it did develop a respectable cult following.

With Mitchell well known for her work in Vampire Diaries and more recent horror projects like Apartment 212, it seems like the production was attempting to at least somewhat emulate the cast of the first movie.

Donovan recently assumed the lead role in the revival of Law & Order during its 21st Season.

Rise of the Damned doesn’t appear to be trying too hard to be serious, so perhaps it will find success among those that enjoy goofy action movies.

The trailer and plot summary for R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned can be seen below. The movie will be available on November 15 on digital, Blu-ray, and DVD.

Synopsis of the movie:

As the newest member of the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.) enforcing the laws of the afterlife, Sheriff Roy Pulsipher (Jeffrey Donovan) is the world’s best hope of being rescued.

The Wild West has literally gone to Hell. After he was living, the Old West was unruly; when he passes away, Roy will witness how bizarre it becomes.

Roy believed that joining the R.I.P.D. would allow him to reconnect with his daughter and uncover the truth about his death.

Instead, when he is given a task to stop a terrible demon from opening a portal to the underworld, he already has his holsters packed with chaos and hellfire.

As cowboys and monsters struggle and zombie madness causes apocalyptic havoc, Roy and his partner Jeanne (Penelope Mitchell), a mystery swordswoman, are now responsible for the fate of the living and the dead.
