John Stamos rejected Ryan Murphy project

  • Ryan Murphy reportedly pitched John Stamos on a project in the late 1990s.
  • Stamos was unimpressed and the pitch never saw the light of day.
  • The pair have since formed a creative partnership, with Stamos guest-starring on Glee and The New Normal.

Even Ryan Murphy had a terrible day at work. According to Full House’s John Stamos, the TV mega-producer who is responsible for recent smashes like Netflix’s The Watcher and DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story reportedly pitched John Stamos on a project that made for a very awkward lunch.

In the late 1990s, Murphy met Stamos at the renowned Los Angeles restaurant The Ivy, where he reportedly pitched him a highly innovative premise.

Stamos recalled the incident on The Jess Cagle Show on October 19. “‘You sleep with the husband, you sleep with the wife and you kind of work on their marriage. Plus, you have a really cute Black guy and there’s a cute blonde guy. You’re like Charlie’s Angels, but you’re hookers. Charlie’s Hookers.'”

Stamos was unimpressed, recalling that when the appetiser was served, he thought, “appetizer got set down and I was like, ‘Oh god, I have to sit another hour with this guy.'”

Unfortunately, Charlie’s Hookers never saw the light of day. However, the failed pitch did not prevent Stamos and Murphy from starting a lengthy creative partnership.

Stamos appeared in guest-starring parts on the Ryan Murphy series Glee and The New Normal, and he starred alongside Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, and Jamie Lee Curtis in the second season of Scream Queens.

Stamos and Murphy have also built a connection outside of the set. Stamos disclosed that he and Murphy recently spent time together in New York City, where they both witnessed Lea Michele’s performance in Funny Girl on Broadway.
