- Samsung’s new LPDDR5X memory is 8.5 Gbps, which is the fastest DRAM on the market.
- It will be used in PCs, servers, and cars as well as a lot of smartphones.
Samsung said that it is making LPDDR5X a natural next step from LPDDR5, and today the company said that validation of the DRAM chips is complete.
The speed of the new memory is 8.5 Gbps, which is the fastest speed for DRAM on the market. It was much faster than the top speed of 7.5 Gbps, which was reached in March.
LPDDR5X technology isn’t new to the market. In fact, a lot of smartphones already use it, but the new memory will make it possible to get even faster speeds with less internal work.
Samsung says that LPDDR5X’s low power use and high performance make it useful for more than just smartphones, including PCs, servers, and cars.
Daniel Lee, EVP of the Memory Product Planning Team at Samsung, said that the company was able to bring the 8.5 Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM to market more than a year earlier because it worked on it with Qualcomm.
Zaid Asghar, VP of Product Management at Qualcomm, said that the San Diego company is the first in the mobile industry to support the fastest new memory on its chipsets.
