YouTube terminate premium subscriptions for 4K videos

  • YouTube is no longer charging users to watch high-quality videos in 4K.
  • Instead, users will have to upgrade to a premium account to watch them.

YouTube started testing 4K videos a few weeks ago, and users who want to try it out can do so by upgrading to a premium account.

Now that the test is over, it looks like users weren’t too happy about it since this feature was only for people with premium accounts.

YouTube tried out this feature and tweeted (which hasn’t been deleted) that users would get a pop-up message asking them to upgrade to the premium tier.

The company said, “It’s part of our experiment to learn more about which features Premium and non-Premium viewers like best.”

But since the decision to charge for 4K videos wasn’t well received, the company has made a new choice.

In a tweet about the new decision, YouTube said “Viewers should now be able to access 4K quality resolutions without a premium membership.”

Users no longer need to pay a subscription fee to watch high-quality videos.

YouTube has tried before to get people who use the site for free to pay. At the beginning of this year, the company tried showing users up to 11 ads they couldn’t skip before the start of a long video so they could watch it without interruptions. Users didn’t like this test either, and it was over in just a few days.

Aside from this, YouTube has added a new feature called “handles,” which lets creators send viewers to their channels to connect with them better.
