ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday left for London on a two day visit before leaving for the United States of America.
The prime minister attend the state funeral for the late Queen who died at the age of 96 on September 8 at her Balmoral Castle residence. Heads of state and their representatives from around the world have been invited to attend the state funeral in London.
At the invitation of the British government, the prime minister, during his visit to UK, will represent Pakistan at the state funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II in London on September 19, the Foreign Office said in a statement.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, members of the cabinet, and the foreign secretary also accompanied the prime minister. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is expected to join him from Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The prime minister is also expected to have a meeting with his elder brother and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in London and discuss the political situation in the country. He will also attend a number of engagements in the British capital during his stay.
After attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth on September 19, the prime minister will embark on his visit to New York to participate in the high-level debate of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
PM Shehbaz will be addressing the UNGA scheduled to be held from September 20 to 26 in New York. He is scheduled to address the UNGA on September 23. He will also attend a bilateral summit on climate change and food security.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with various international leaders including Turkiye, Iran and Spain. However, it is unclear if he will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit.
A day earlier, the prime minister returned from his two-day visit to Samarkand, Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He held bilateral meeting with the leaders of various leaders including Russian President Putin, Chinese President Xi Jingping and others friendly countries.
