Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, are failing at the box office. The films opened poorly and didn’t improve after multiple breaks.

Laal Singh Chaddha opened to Rs. 11.50 cr on Raksha Bandhan. Friday’s box office decrease was followed by a weekend gain. The film plummeted after Independence Day. After a $1.85 million debut Tuesday, the film made $1.55 million on Wednesday. The extended first week will push the film above Rs. 50 cr nett India.

After a drop on Friday, Raksha Bandhan grew over the weekend. The film plunged 75% on its first Tuesday, to Rs. 1.45 cr. The picture dropped 18% from Tuesday, adding Rs. 1.17 cr. First week total is over Rs. 36 cr and extended week 1 is moving towards Rs. 37.5 cr, with Thursday’s surge attributed to Janmashtami.

Both movies have terrible numbers. Laal Singh Chaddha has done better worldwide than Raksha Bandhan. Raksha Bandhan’s production costs are much lower than Laal Singh Chaddha’s, thus it won’t lose money. Laal Singh Chaddha, however, is gigantic and has been in production for 4 years.
