- Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 are two of the greatest folding smartphones.
- Both phones have large displays that fold inward.
- Both have 8-inch foldable OLED screens with 120Hz refresh rates.
Foldable smartphones have developed to the point where they can serve as your primary phone for the next few years.
An apparent wrinkle on the interior screen, flimsier parts, and even a lack of IP certification hampered the previous iterations, which were far from ideal.
But today, things have changed. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and the recently released Galaxy Z Fold4 are two of the greatest folding smartphones available today. It makes perfect sense to compare the two models because the two businesses released their models roughly simultaneously.
Let’s quickly compare the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 devices to see how they stack up.

Design
Inward folding is a feature of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. This indicates that there are two displays on each phone. A second external display is available for usage while the first one is folded, which is a sizable tablet-like display that folds inward.
We can easily compare the two foldable in terms of design thanks to their shared design philosophy.
Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has a more curved and rounder appearance. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, on the other hand, employs a boxier design profile, comparable to the designs of the Galaxy Note series that we have previously seen. While the Samsung models add fancier Burgundy and Gray-green color options, both phones look premium and polished for their prices, with the Xiaomi foldable coming in the traditional black and gold colors.
The way camera module style differs greatly from one another. The three cameras for the Galaxy foldable are housed in a vertical camera module, whereas the three cameras for the Xiaomi foldable are located on a rectangular camera module. This makes the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 appear more balanced than the Galaxy version.
The Xiaomi model has an advantage in terms of size since it is only 5.4mm thick while in tablet mode (vs 6.3mm on the Galaxy Fold 4). At 11.2mm, it is significantly thinner than the Galaxy model even when folded (vs 14mm).
Due to its larger front and back displays, the Xiaomi device is noticeably bigger than the Samsung one. It is unfortunate that it does not support a stylus, unlike the Samsung model.
In this category, there is no clear victor because both are on paper well-built foldables.

Display
Let’s begin by discussing their unfolded screens. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 offers a larger display than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 due to its larger size. It has an 8.02-inch foldable OLED panel with a resolution of 1914 x 2160, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and Dolby Vision on the inside, and an exterior screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2520, a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has a 6.2-inch 904 x 2316 screen with a 23.1:9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate on the outside, and a 7.6-inch 1812 x 2176 HDR10+ panel inside.
As you can see, both displays have excellent specifications on paper, and it’s encouraging to note that both phones now support panels with a 120Hz refresh rate on both their internal and exterior screens. But in terms of size and aspect ratio, Xiaomi appears to be ahead. When compared to Samsung’s 23.1:9 screen, the exterior display of the Xiaomi model has a conventional aspect ratio of 21:9, which is visible if you look closely.
Both variants have a foldable internal screen protected by Ultra Thin Glass (UTG).
Finally, it is impossible to discuss foldable screens without actually discussing creases. Given that Samsung has nearly mastered the technique of minimizing the visible crease on its display, it may have an advantage in this situation. Xiaomi likewise boasts of having displays without creases, however, Samsung appears to have a lead in this area.
Details and software
When it comes to hardware, the two foldables are comparable. Both models have the best smartphone chipset for Android phones in 2022, the 3.2GHz Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 CPU. Both models provide options for up to 1TB of storage and 12GB of RAM, so they will never run out of power when running demanding apps or playing taxing games. Even multitasking ought to be simple.
However, the software should be the most noticeable area of difference between the two phones. The Xiaomi model has MIUI Fold 13 OS, which is based on Android 12. With a few modifications (including multitasking) for its foldable form factor, this is comparable to the OS that powers its smartphones.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 has an advantage over other devices since it has a special OS designed for big screens. With OneUI 4.1.1 added on top of the Android 12L OS, it adds tablet-specific features like Samsung Flex, making the experience much more enjoyable and productive.
Although the two phones are evenly matched in terms of processing power, Samsung brings its wealth of foldables knowledge to the software in this case. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 now has a competitive advantage in this area.
Camera
The two phones are competitive in the camera department as well.
A 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, a second 10MP 3x telephoto zoom camera with OIS and a 12MO ultra wide-angle camera with 123 FoV are all included with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. The phone has a 4MP f/1.8 selfie camera inside, hidden beneath the display. On its cover display, the Samsung model also includes a second 10MP selfie camera.
In contrast, the Xiaomi Mix Fold2 has a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with OIS, an 8MP telephoto lens with a 2x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, it has a 20MP selfie camera.
As you can see, both models have a good camera system that is on a level with 2022’s top models. Even 8K video recording is supported.
Battery
Foldable devices still don’t have powerful batteries in 2022. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has a typical 4500mAh battery and 67W charging power. The Galaxy Z Fold4 has a 4400mAh battery and supports 25W charging, in contrast.
The Xiaomi device lacks wireless and reverse wireless charging functionality, whereas the Galaxy foldable, like its predecessor, has both at 15W.
Price
Globally, the Galaxy Z Fold4 costs $1,799.99/£1,649/€1,799 as of today. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 is available for purchase in China for about 8,999 Yuan ($1,335).
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is one of the top foldables of 2022 because of numerous generations of improvements. Even when compared to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, the phone is still somewhat expensive. They are quite equally matched in terms of hardware, but the Samsung model would excel in terms of software.
In the following weeks, the foldable market will become much more exciting if Xiaomi makes the foldable available globally for less money than the Galaxy Z Fold4.
