ISLAMABAD – Today, people all over the country are remembering the 25th anniversary of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s death (Monday).
He was popularly regarded as “Shahenshah-e-Qawwali”, meaning “The King of Qawwali”.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born in Faisalabad, Pakistan, on October 13, 1948. He was known as one of the first people in Pakistan to make fusion music.
Khan, who came from a Patiala gharana, kept his family’s 600-year-old Qawwali tradition alive and shared it with people all over the world.
The Guinness Book of World Records says that Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has the most Qawwali recordings of any artist in the world.
In 1987, the famous singer was given the Pride of Performance award by the Pakistani government for his work in Pakistani music. He was also given the UNESCO Music Prize, which is a very prestigious award. About 25 Qawwali albums were made by the great musician.
His huge hit “Dam Mast Qalandar” became a popular song for everyone. Music fans still like his Hamd “Wohi Khuda Hai” and the national song “Mera Paigham Pakistan.”
Khan died in 1997 after a long fight with lung cancer.
On the anniversary of his death, the music legend Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and people on social media paid a touching tribute to the music master.
