Footage captures the moment Israeli airstrikes hit Gaza homes

  • An Israeli airstrike hits a house belonging to a member of the extremist Islamic Jihad.
  • 29 individuals were killed in the last round of violence, including a five-year-old child.
  • The latest flare-up started with a surprise raid by the Israeli army on Friday.

A close-up video captures the dramatic moment an Israeli airstrike hits a home in Gaza on Saturday, as Israel’s assault against the extremist Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) entered its second day.

After warning inhabitants, Israeli fighter planes launched two bombs on the home of an Islamic Jihad member.

The current flare-up started with a surprise raid by the Israeli army on Friday, which killed a top PIJ leader, interrupting more than a year of relative peace.

Palestinian terrorists replied by launching at least 200 rockets towards Israel, the most majority of which were intercepted, setting off repeated air raid sirens and sending residents fleeing to bomb shelters. According to the Israeli emergency service, there were no significant injuries.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, 29 individuals were killed in the last round of violence, including a five-year-old child and a 79-year-old woman. It stated 253 people had been injured, and the UN said 31 families in Gaza had been displaced.

Lynn Hastings, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in occupied Palestinian territory, said the humanitarian situation in Gaza “is already bad and will only deteriorate with this most recent escalation.”

“The hostilities must stop to avoid more deaths and injuries of civilians in Gaza and Israel,”  she added, asking all sides to adhere to the standards of international humanitarian law.
