Johnny Depp made the choice to honour his commitment to his friend Jeff Beck by forgoing his attendance at the widely publicised defamation case judgement against ex-wife Amber Heard.
The actor, 59, had already arranged to tour with the guitarist when the case outcome was scheduled to be revealed, a close friend of the Edward Scissorhands star informed the New York Post.
He was not present for the verdict because he had already made preparations to tour with Jeff Beck, the insider revealed when explaining why Depp missed the trial verdict.
“Johnny skipped the first night of the tour to attend the closing arguments in court. He would, however, never fail Jeff. After the arguments were over, he arrived at the tour as quickly as he could, the insider said.
Depp has been enjoying gigs with Beck ever since the libel case’s ruling was made public and is ready to begin shooting his first movie, Jeanne du Barry, on Monday.

The friend explained to the publication why Johnny was in Europe: “Being in Europe is business as usual for Johnny. He wasn’t fired or made to feel bad there. He remains more at ease [in Europe] than in the US as a result.
Despite the fact that the actor’s post-trial behaviour may be interpreted as a “planned celebration of his freedom” from “the shackles of litigation,” the friend stated the timing is “serendipitous.” This is not the celebration lap.
The source continued, “This is Johnny being free to go back and lead his life finally boosted by a resounding jury judgement that overwhelmingly showed Amber Heard’s charges to be untrue.”
The source stated, “These arrangements were well-laid long before the trial, and the tour and movie were already set. He has always painted and given paintings out to people, at least as long as I have known him. He is always painting.
