Following Aniq Kasdan’s victory in the men’s 55kg weight division earlier in the day, it was Malaysia’s second weightlifting gold medal.

The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) had predicted one gold and two silver medals for the 2022 tournament, however their performance exceeded those projections.

The fact that Muhamad Aznil, 28, was able to successfully defend the gold medal he had won in the 2018 edition at the Gold Coast, Australia, was evidence of his strength in the weightlifting sport.
