After allowing all evacuees to return home, the temporary evacuation centre at the Kampung Padang Empang hall; which had been open since Thursday (July 28), was shut down at 10 am on Saturday (July 30).
According to Lieutenant Dzulhaidy Mohd Khalil, deputy officer of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM); the majority of the flood victims have cleaned their homes since Friday (July 29); when the flood levels subsided and it was safe for them to go back inside.
“All 58 victims from 19 families were sheltered in the relief centre when it opened at 9 p.m. on Thursday, and now they may all return home.
When reached by Bernama here on Saturday, he stated, “However, we are still in a condition of preparedness; and the tent units in the relief centre will continue to be placed there for the time being.”
He claims that this morning’s weather in the impacted regions was gloomy; and it briefly rained at approximately 11am. He also claims that the water level in Sungai Kupang, particularly at the Bailey bridge; was also at a normal level, which was 0.5m deep.

Residents are urged to transfer right away to a relief centre if the river level increases; according to the Meteorological Department’s forecast for gloomy and wet weather this evening, he added.
The water level of Sungai Kupang rose and overflowed into the settlements on Thursday; causing numerous villages in Kupang to experience flash floods. This was the result of continuous; heavy rain that began at 2pm and lasted for almost three hours.
In the meantime, it was claimed that flash floods struck 16 homes in Kampung Sungai Toh Pawang Luar, Semeling; Kuala Muda district, at around 9.30 on Saturday morning.
Captain Azahar Ahmad, an APM officer for the Kual Muda district, said that the village’s low-lying sections were flooded; as a result of heavy rain that lasted for more than an hour.
Additionally, it has been shown that the drainage system has a role in the incidence of flash floods; in the region in question. The storm levels have entirely subsided; but no relief centre has been established.
