The UK Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace MP, revealed plans for Britain to lead the construction of a flying combat air demonstration, which will prove the technology and design concepts required to achieve the UK’s Future Combat Air System.

BAE Systems is leading the effort alongside the Ministry of Defense and many UK vendors. This groundbreaking project will provide the UK’s first flying combat air demonstrator in a generation. Within five years, the demonstration will fly.

Team Tempest is developing the flagship project’s innovative technology. These ideas aim to show and evaluate next-generation combat air abilities, tools, procedures, and methods required to guarantee Tempest, the UK’s Future Combat Air System, enters service in 2035.

Team Tempest includes the Ministry of Defense, BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, Rolls-Royce, and MBDA UK. Tempest will play a critical role in supporting long-term defense and security for the UK, while delivering major economic advantages to the country, safeguarding high-value skills and jobs, and contributing to development in many UK areas.
BAE Systems engineers in the North of England lead the design, test, evaluation, and construction process by using synthetic modelling and model-based systems engineering. Innovative design and engineering technologies are reducing the time needed to create, deliver, and update sophisticated combat aircraft.

“I’m glad the UK, Italy, and Japan are collaborating on combat aviation missions. Our collaboration on cutting-edge technologies with Japan and Italy demonstrates the value of global partnerships. The design and construction of the demonstration aircraft is a major milestone for our engineers, programmers, and software developers. This initiative will attract more talent from throughout the UK. Ben Wallace, defense secretary.

“We know we must provide trustworthy sovereign combat air capabilities. We’re collaborating with the UK’s highly motivated and talented supplier chain to innovate the nation’s future air force, incorporating new technology so the RAF and its allies can remain ahead of our enemies. The demonstration is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to our national defense and security. CEO Charles Woodburn remarked.

The demonstration will showcase the core platform’s technologies, methodologies, and tools. Tempest’s demonstration programme helps retain, develop, and excite the next generation of skills and experience.

Tempest was launched in 2018 in response to the UK’s ambitious Combat Air Strategy. It emphasized the significance of the UK’s sovereign combat air sector in meeting its defense and security requirements and launched the programme to replace Typhoon.

The policy recognized the sector’s wide advantages to the country and pledged to ensuring that future procurement choices include military capabilities, foreign influence, economic value, and total cost to produce maximum benefit for the UK.
