Dow and Mura Technology will recirculate plastic globally

  • Dow will be a main off-taker of Mura’s circular feed.
  • This feed, produced from plastic trash slated for disposal or incineration.
  • Dow and Mura can create 600 KT of advanced recycling capacity by 2030.

Dow and Mura Technology, the global pioneer of an advanced plastic recycling solution. Today announced the next step in their partnership to help solve the global plastic waste issue. They are constructing multiple 120 kilotons (KT) advanced recycling facilities in the U.S. and Europe – adding as much as 600 KT of annual capacity.

Dow will buy Mura’s circular feed. This cyclical feed, made from plastic garbage intended for disposal or incineration, reduces Dow’s reliance on fossil-based feedstocks and enables the company to make virgin-grade polymers from recycled plastic. Dow and Mura will recycle plastic into global supply networks, developing a circular economy for plastics and enhancing plastic trash’s worth.

Mura’s planned capital expenditures and Dow’s off-take agreements are both corporations’ biggest pledges to yet to boost global recycling.

Dow’s Marc van den Biggelaar: “This deepens our partnership with Mura.” “Dow invests in novel solutions to meet customer demand for recovered material and close the plastic waste loop. Dow is committed to a circular economy for plastics, and our partnership with Mura represents a milestone. As a long-term partner, we love this plastic recycling method.”

Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics President Diego Donoso noted, “This alliance builds momentum as we seek for feedstock flexibility and variety.” “A circular plastics business model will support decarbonization and net zero.”

Mura’s HydroPRSTM (Hydrothermal Plastic Recycling Solution) innovative recycling technology can recycle all types of plastic, including flexible and multi-layer plastics. It can save millions of tones of plastic and carbon dioxide from entering the environment each year and create a sustainable, circular plastics industry. Dow’s materials science expertise aids this endeavor.

Dr. Steve Mahon, CEO of Mura Technology, remarked, “There is no time to spend on the global plastics challenge.” “Mura’s technology promotes a worldwide circular plastics economy, and our relationship with Dow helps deliver HydroPRSTM to the world. Dow’s resources will help us fund and greatly boost recycling capacity, allowing circular plastics to join global supply chains at scale.”

The first factory employing Mura’s HydroPRSTM process will be in Teesside, U.K., and will provide Dow with 100% recycled feedstock. The expanded agreement will let Dow and Mura build up 600 KT of advanced recycling capacity by 2030.

Dow’s worldwide reach will scale up Mura’s technology in the U.S. and Europe. These ideas include co-location options that will benefit Mura’s plants.

Dow’s other programmes in mechanical recycling and the waste ecology complement advanced recycling.
