It has been said that after Sushmita entered the film industry as Miss Universe in 1994, she dated Vikram Bhatt sometime in the mid-1990s. The 1996 film Dastak, in which Sushmita made her Bollywood debut, was written by Vikram. A few years later, they ended their relationship.

Lalit Modi referred to Sushmita as his “better half” after their recent trip to the Maldives and Italy, and he shared photos from the trip with her last week. He later clarified they weren’t married but were dating. An Instagram picture from Sushmita one day later also dispelled the wedding rumours.
