On Friday, two monsoon systems clashed over Karachi, wreaking havoc on the metropolis and causing urban floods in numerous parts, overflowing storm drains, and gridlocked commuters.

Rescue workers reported that numerous vehicles were swept away in the downpour’s flood while the Karachi to Hyderabad Super Highway was restricted to traffic owing to the weather.

It was the fourth spell of rain to hit the city’s fragile infrastructure in a row.

Bright sunshine on Friday morning gave way to gloomy clouds that began to appear out of the southeast about 3pm, dropping more rain on a city that was already dealing with various types of water.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department reports that on Friday from 8 am to 11 pm, Gulshan-e-Hadid saw the most precipitation, totaling 102.7 mm.

University Road received 27mm, Faisal Base 46mm, Jinnah Terminal 38.8mm, and Old Airport 53mm of precipitation.

Rain fell in Keamari (8mm), Quaidabad (25.5mm), Nazimabad (20.4), Gadap (15mm), DHA (10.5mm), Saadi Town (9.1), PAF Masroor Base (16mm), Surjani Town (7.2mm), Gulshan Maymar (6.6mm), North Karachi (5.3mm), and Orangi Town (5.1mm).

The rain, which began in Kathor on the city’s outskirts, extended across the city, flooding several districts.

Numerous locations, including Gulshan-e-Hadid, Hassan Square, Model Colony, Gulshane-Iqbal, and Gulberg Town, experienced urban flooding.

Rainwater accumulated on highways so much due to improper drainage that even sidewalks became inundated.

Many people sought cover under flyovers to wait for the rain to stop while others were seen wading through knee-deep water. Dozens of cars and motorcycles also came to a stop as a result of water getting into their silencers or engines’ exhaust pipes.

The present monsoon spell may bring sporadic rainfall today (Saturday) from midday to evening, says Chief Meteorologist Karachi Sardar Sarfraz.

While drizzle is expected in the city at this time, major downpours and thunderstorms are not anticipated on the first day of Eid.

Closed Malir Causeway

The city administration sent out police and Rangers to block traffic going towards Korangi Causeway because the Malir River was swollen.

Landhi Murtaza Chorangi was meantime submerged as a result of the Malir River’s overflow.

Rangers representatives have arrived at the Korangi Causeway to begin the rescue operation.

The road between Landhi and Malir Memon Goth has reportedly been completely inundated, forcing government to restrict it by installing barricades, according to the most recent situation on Friday.

To help the inhabitants of the rain-soaked city, Pakistan Rangers Sindh, police, and local authorities were doing their best with the tools at hand.
