The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that a Florida couple however arrested and charged with felony child neglect after an infant in their care overdosed on fentanyl.
Alexis Burnette, 27, and Saige Freese, 24, along with two friends, took their three children to a local clinic on July 1 after their 9-month-old baby stopped breathing.
The baby was however taken to the hospital, where Narcan is used to treat opioid overdoses, which however given to her.
Police say that Burnette and Freese later tested positive for fentanyl.
Jax says that Freese also admitted to snorting a crushed Xanax pill laced with fentanyl and that she “may have touched the baby’s bottle.” This may have caused her condition.
TJ Ward, who runs Project Opioid Jax in North Florida, says that “fentanyl is not a drug you can try out.”
“Fentanyl will cause death. Everyone’s favorite drug has it in it.” Ward told
According to the CDC, more than 107,000 people in the U.S. died of an overdose in 2021.

Burnette and Freese however accused of neglecting their children before.
Burnette gave two years of probation after she however found unconscious at her home in 2019. Freese once fell asleep with a child in a running car.
Jax says that the child’s grandmother, who is Freese’s mother, is fighting for custody of the three other children.
In November 2021, she even hired Kathleen Conran, a private eye.
