Prince Harry wins libel lawsuit against Mail on Sunday

A UK High Court judge ruled Friday that a tabloid article claiming Prince Harry tried to keep a legal case secret was “defamatory.”

The Duke of Sussex is suing Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) because the Mail on Sunday wrote about his High Court security case.

The February article was titled “How Prince Harry tried to keep his legal fight with the government over police bodyguards a secret.

Minutes after the story broke, his PR machine tried to spin the dispute positively.” The duke’s lawyers said the article was wrong when it said Harry “lied” and “cynically manipulated public opinion”

PA Media reported. ANL’s lawyers said “any sensible reading of the article” refuted the claims.

According to court documents, the Duke of Sussex offered to pay after the case began.

Nicklin said, “It’s possible to “spin” facts without misleading.” Common law defamation

What’s next? “The defendant responds. The claim’s success and reason will be decided later.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will quit tabloids in April 2020. Since 2016, they’ve discussed media attention.
