Karachiites once again suffered from severe problem due to the worst performance of the PPP-led Sindh government when a heavy spell of rain on Friday inundated a number of roads and low-lying localities of the metropolis.
There is no proper working sewerage system in the city and the residents of this destitute town, which happens to be the Capital of Sindh province and contributes more than 60 per cent tax to the national kitty, have to undergo insulting suffering every year. The federal and provincial governments always make just tall claims to improve the condition of this poor city.

According to Bol News TV, several neighborhoods including Gadap Town, Surjani Town, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Jinnah Old Terminal, Tariq Road, Defence View, FC Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Guru Mandir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Nazimabad witnessed urban flooding situation.
On the other side, the urban flooding harshly hit the flow of traffic in the city, causing severe traffic jams in many areas particularly Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Civic Centre, Old Sabzi Mandi, Gharibabad, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and many other areas where motorists were stuck on roads as the engines of their vehicles stalled due to water accumulation up to a few feet.
Bol News TV further reported that the thoroughfare between Landhi and Malir Memon Goth has been totally inundated compelling administration to close it by erecting barriers. The Gadap stream was overflowed, submerging all adjoining areas.
The suffering of people further worsened when rainwater mixed with sewage entered homes, causing severe difficulties to them.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 77.7 mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, while 44mm rain was recorded at Old Airport, 33mm in PAF Base Faisal, 31.3mm at Jinnah Terminal, 18.4mm at University Road, 11mm in Quaidabad, and 3 mm in Kemari. The lowest rainfall of 0.5 mm was recorded in North Karachi.
The Met Office added that monsoon currents are continuously penetrating the country and are expected to weaken over the next 24 hours before strengthening over the weekend.
Earlier, it warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm to hit Karachi by noon today (Friday).
Just days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Karachi would witness another downpour today that will grip the city around noon and would be moderate to heavy in intensity.
Additionally, light to moderate rains are expected during Eid too as another monsoon spell will hit Karachi on July 11 and may cause urban flooding in a few areas
Whereas, the ongoing spell will stay in the city till July 9.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday said the provincial and district authorities should remain vigilant and ensure prerequisite arrangements to cope with impending inclement weather predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department during the Eid holidays.
Rain-wind, thundershower, and heavy falls are expected in various parts of the country, said the NDMA news release.
On the other hand, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief package for the rain and flood affectees across the country.
The massive relief package announced by the premiere was aimed at the people affected by the recent monsoon rains.

The emergency financial assistance has Rs 1 million each for the affected families as announced by the PM.
