A tower block in south-east London has been evacuated after a fire started. About 120 people were there.

Just before noon on Sunday, a portion of the roof and a portion of a flat; on the 15th level of the 17-story building on St. Mark’s Square in Bromley caught fire.

At around 16:00 BST, the London Incident Brigade (LFB) reported that the fire was under control.

There have been no reported injuries, and the fire’s origin is being looked into.

Social media videos showed black smoke and flames erupting from one area of the sloping roof.

There were about 100 firemen on the site.

Currently on the site, Station Commander Colin Digby stated that; he anticipated personnel to be there for “many hours to come.”

Firefighters have deployed a 64m (210ft) rotating ladder to battle the blaze; after receiving 95 calls to the brigade’s 999 control centre; alerting them to the fire.

Josh Gill, a 29-year-old eyewitness, reported seeing “some folks sad and sobbing; while others were astonished and perplexed as to what was happening.”

The fire department is still on the scene; and you can see residents of the apartments taking refuge in the church.

“Where there is the slope of the structure there are balconies and flames were blazing; viciously at the start,” said 63-year-old Rowland Leslie.
