Two Britons caught while fighting for Ukraine are under orders by the European Court of Human Rights ;to spare them of death penalty. British residents Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner were found guilty of “mercenary actions”; for fighting alongside Ukrainian forces and were sentenced to death earlier this month by a court; in the Russia-backed self-declared DPR in eastern Ukraine.

The European Court of Human Rights announced on Thursday; that it had issued an order for temporary measures; instructing Russia to “ensure that the applicants’ death sentences do not take place; ensure appropriate detention conditions; and provide them with any necessary medical assistance and medication.”

Russia asserts that it is not in obligation by the order to stop the executions; after its parliament enacted legislation this month to exclude; it from the jurisdiction of Europe’s top human rights court. The only thing left to say is that Russia no longer conforms with the ECHR’s rules; according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He claimed that the separatist DPR leadership; should decide on “the fate of these mercenaries.”
