Sajidah Anwar got ready to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia; the fifth pillar of Islam and a mandatory pilgrimage for those Muslims; who can afford to do so. The additional tenets include faith in God (Allah); Muhammad as the prophet, five daily prayers, fasting, and almsgiving. To fulfil the fifth and final condition, Anwar said, “I was prepared mentally and spiritually”. To make sure she was physically prepared for the challenging trek; she increased her physical training, took Hajj classes; and purchased all of the necessary supplies.

She has lately visited Tasmania and Australia’s Blue Mountains; but the one destination she has always longed to go; has always been just out of reach.
As is customary while completing Hajj or Umrah, the 48-year-old added; “I’ve been saving for this journey for years but had been waiting for a mahram [male relative]; to be able to join me.”
