Michigan Democrats petition the DNC for a primary in 2024. Leaders in Michigan are pressing for an early start in the new presidential primary sequence; that the Democratic National Committee is considering. In a video that Michigan Democrats published last week; Isiah Thomas, a former player for the Detroit Pistons, is heard saying, “Michigan looks like America.” State Democrats; are making an effort to increase awareness of their cause.
Why it’s important States that hold early nomination contests; like as Iowa and New Hampshire, are very important to the presidential nominating process.

Rev. Wendell Anthony, head of the Detroit NAACP; stated in an interview with Axios Detroit that “going first would be a fantastic stimulus; for the city and for identifying the African American vote. “It would convey to the rest of the party that people of colour; who make up our core constituency, are crucially important.
Present situation: Last week in Washington, D.C., representatives from 16 states; including Michigan, made their final argument before the DNC Rules; and Bylaws Committee.

Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, and Debbie Dingell, a member of Congress; were among the state Democratic officials that attended.
Each state is being evaluated by the DNC committee on the basis of its diversity; level of competition, and ability to organise early nominating contests.
What they’re saying: Dingell tells Axios that “if you’re in an early state; you have candidates coming in practising retail politics.” There are simply a wide variety of experiences; that we observe here in the rest of the nation.
