SUKKUR: A woman hailing from Khairpur who is the daughter of a donkey-cart vendor wins local body polls in Sindh as an independent candidate, reported BOL News.

As per details, Parveen Sheikh is the daughter of a vendor who won the elections against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Manthar Sheikh by securing 430 votes in Sindh LG polls.

She was nominated by former Sindh CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah and PPP’s MNA Nafisa Shah Jillani.

Earlier, the first phase of local government elections in as many as 14 districts from four divisions of Sindh took place on June 26.

The 14 districts of Sindh include Larkana, Kambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar.

At least 21,298 candidates are in the field against 6,277 seats of 101 town committees, 23 municipal committees, 14 district councils, four municipal corporations, eleven town municipal corporations and 887 union councils and union committees.
