The military of Sudan has accused the military of Ethiopia of carrying out the execution of eight Sudanese hostages, seven soldiers and one civilian.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Sudanese military accused the Ethiopian army of publicly exhibiting the bodies of people who had been executed and promised “an appropriate response” to the allegations.

It stated that this deceitful deed would not go unanswered and that a retaliation would be given.

A request for comment made to Ethiopian officials was not met with an immediate response from those authorities.

A spillover of the conflict in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray area and Ethiopia’s construction of a massive hydroelectric dam on the Blue Nile are two factors that have contributed to the escalation of tensions between Sudan and Ethiopia during the past several years.

Tens of thousands of refugees have fled into eastern Sudan, and there have been confrontations between the armed forces of Sudan and Ethiopia in a region of contested farmland that is located along the boundary between the two countries.
