Southern Manitoba thunderstorm warnings have been lifted

  • Tornado watches lifted for Kenora, Nestor Falls in northwestern Ontario.
  • Environment Canada issued warnings of possible strong winds, heavy rain and nickel-sized hail.
  • Storms rolled through parts of the southeast and south, including in Winnipeg, early Friday night.

Southern Manitoba thunderstorm warnings have been lifted. For Kenora and Nestor Falls in northwest Ontario; tornado watches are no longer in force. Early on Friday night, storms moved through sections of the southeast Manitoba and south including Winnipeg; before ceasing in the late afternoon.

Strong winds, copious rain, and nickel-sized hail were all possibilities; according to Environment Canada’s predictions.

In northwest Ontario, the weather system also led to tornado watches and warnings; all of which were cancelled shortly after 9 p.m. CT. A heat warning and severe thunderstorm watch are in place for Fort Frances and Rainy Lake; and severe thunderstorm watches are still in effect for Kenora and Nestor Falls.
