Covid-19 update: Positivity ratio reaches 3.19%

  • Covid-19 cases surged across Pakistan in the past few days with positivity ratio exceeding 3%
  • Out of 13,644 diagnostic tests, 435 turned positive in the last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: A surge in Covid-19 cases has been witnessed across Pakistan with the positivity ratio exceeding 3% in the last 24 hours, the National Institute of Health (NIH) revealed.

As per details, 13,644 diagnostic tests were conducted across the country of which 435 turned positive in the last 24 hours taking the positivity ratio to 3.19%.

The stats also revealed that 87 patients are in critical care with one death reported while the overall case count has soared to 1,533,482.

The NIH has disclosed that the case count has been high in Karachi and Hyderabad and feared another wave of Covid-19 in Pakistan.

So far, Covid -19 has claimed the lives of 30,383 people across Pakistan and the total number of cases has soared up to 1,531,982.

Earlier, the health department in Sindh announced to ensure the Covid-19 related SOPs in all districts of Karachi and Hyderabad after the recent surge.

Notably, Dow University of Health Sciences Professor Dr Saeed Khan on Friday said coronavirus cases in the country were multiplying because of a new sub-variant of the viral disease.

He said cases of the new sub-variant of coronavirus were surfacing in Karachi as well, therefore the citizens should pay attention to vaccination. He asked citizens to get a booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine as well and follow the standard operating procedures of the government against the virus, as its effectiveness reduced after six months.
