Gunnarsdottir joins Juventus just as the women’s Serie A is set to become a professional league for the first time.

Since 2007, Björk has been a member of Iceland’s national team, and she has competed for her nation in the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2009, 2013, and 2017.

She is the only female to have received this honor twice, in 2018 and 2020, in Iceland.

At the age of six, Björk joined the neighborhood team Haukar and played there until she was 18.

She stayed with Breiablik for three more seasons until leaving Iceland in 2011 to sign a three-year professional contract with Swedish team LdB FC Malmö.

She became an instant hit in Sweden, scoring 12 goals to help Malmö win the Damallsvenskan championship.

She missed much of last season, when Lyon won a record-extending eighth Champions League, due to pregnancy and the birth of her first child.

That was the second European crown claimed during her two years with Lyon after also winning the 2020 edition.
