Terrified woman and dog locked in canal by herself for 18 hours

After spending nearly 18 hours stranded in a canal, a distraught woman and her terrified dog managed to escape.

The rescue operation in Arizona, US, was filmed on police bodycam video, showing a number of cops cooperating to save the two people.

The woman had let her dog off the leash while out for a stroll last week, not realising there was a canal nearby. This led to the rescue.

However, she plunged into the canal to rescue the puppy and got herself caught in the process.

The following day, at noon, police arrived to save the pair after a train conductor saw them in “distress” and promptly called 911.

The police strap, however, broke while attempting to haul the woman out of the water.

The woman was then lassoed in an attempt to drag her to safety using a long dog line that had been looped around her.

Both the woman and the dog are not believed to have suffered any serious injuries, despite the fact that the woman was brought to a local hospital.

Not the only fortunate pooch will be appreciative of some additional help.

After becoming trapped in a swiftly moving sea channel, a “very lucky” dog was saved by a nearby lifeboat station.

On Wednesday, RNLI Hunstanton was contacted to assist a woman and her dog in Brancaster, Norfolk.

They were into danger and urgently required assistance.
