A total of 183 of the verified cases are located in England, 35 are located in Scotland, 18 are located in Wales, and 22 are located in Northern Ireland.

According to the UK Health Security Agency, children under the age of five account for the majority of the cases (UKHSA).

Investigations continue to determine whether the adenovirus, a common infection that causes fevers resembling the flu, is connected to the spike.

According to health professionals, cases typically start with diarrhea and nausea before jaundice appears.
