Seven kidnapped people rescued by Nigerian police

Local police announced Wednesday that Nigerian police had rescued seven kidnapped individuals from a jungle in the southern state of Enugu.

In a statement, Daniel Ndukwe, a police spokesperson in Enugu, said that police rescued the victims in the Udi region of the state early Tuesday morning.

Ndukwe didn’t say how the kidnapped people were saved, but he did say that the forest guard and local villagers helped the police.

“The (police) command has launched a discreet investigation to fish out the perpetrators,” he added, adding that the area has been placed under security observation.

Gunmen have killed people in the most populous country in Africa in a series of attacks.
