Stanford cancels summer sessions due to power disruptions

  • Stanford University however forced to suspend summer sessions due to power outage.
  • PG&E has not yet issued a projected time of power restoration.
  • Dining hall remained open for those without electricity until 3 a.m. 

Due to a power outage that may last for the foreseeable future, Stanford University was compelled to suspend summer sessions.

The institution posted on Twitter on Wednesday that “there is no change to the situation of the power outage on campus.”

“Due to damage to their equipment located in the fire region close to Emerald Hills, PG&E has not issued a projected time of power restoration.”

Employees however forced to work from home due to the early-morning Tuesday outage.

The Stanford Daily reported that a dining hall offering cold drinks, snacks, and electricity open to students until 3 a.m.

Firefighters however still working to put out the Edgewood fire.

The working however forced thousands of people without power and led to evacuations in the Emerald Hills.

A quick transition to renewable energy sources like wind and solar is at issue.

According to Joe Trotter, such disruptions will continue to be an issue as long as policymakers put long-term objectives before short-term consequences.

Trotter stated that “our leaders need to be really aware of the day-to-day impact.”
