On Wednesday, a judge will hear arguments from both sides in a Florida courtroom over whether the case against Gabby Petito’s family should go to a jury trial. Gabby Petito was a young woman who is thought to have been murdered last year by her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.
It is learned that the Laundrie family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, will virtually attend the 1:30 p.m. hearing in Sarasota County Circuit Court where the Petito-Schmidt families and their counsel will appear before Judge Hunter W. Carroll. Chris and Roberta Laundrie’s parents won’t be in the courtroom or appear electronically, according to Bertolino, who spoke to Fox News D

According to Petito’s relatives, Laundrie’s parents attempted to help their son elude justice when they were aware that their son had slain their daughter. “I have no comment at this moment and don’t know if the judge will rule today,” said Patrick Reilly, the attorney who is defending the Petito-Schmidt families in the legal case, on Wednesday.
In a white converted Ford Transit, Laundrie and Petito, 22, set out on a tour in the middle of June 2021 with the intention of seeing national parks. The pair had grown up on Long Island, New York, where they had first met, and later relocated to Brian’s parents’ house in North Port, Florida.
Moab Police received a report of a domestic violence incident involving the couple while they were travelling through Utah. The woman, Petito, was hit and “slapped” by a man who was later identified as Brian Laundrie by a witness who called 911.

According to a police report, “no one claimed that the male struck the female,” however the call seems to contradict that statement.
The event could be “more aptly classified as a mental/emotional health ‘break’ than a domestic assault,” according to one of the responding cops.
According to a report released on Jan. 12, an outside inquiry discovered “unintentional faults” and suggested the cops involved in the case be put on probation.
On September 1, Laundrie returned to North Port with the van but without Petito.
Parents According to Chris and Roberta Laundrie, Brian, age 23, left his house in North Port on September 13 to go on a trek in the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve’s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. Initially stating that Brian’s disappearance occurred on September 14, The Laundries’ counsel changed their timetable a few weeks later.

State, local, county, and federal police enforcement conducted a thorough search of the reserve and the Myakkahatchee after Laundrie vanished, where he was alleged to have parked his automobile at the time.
