The first shipment of heavy weapons promised by Berlin has been delivered to Ukraine, according to the country’s defence minister. As the country runs out of ammunition for its current Soviet-era arsenal, which is dwarfed by Russia’s, Ukraine has begged the West to supply more and stronger artillery.
“Resupply is available!
The German Panzerhaubitze 2000 joined the Ukrainian artillery family with crews that had received training “Oleksii Reznikov, the defence minister of Ukraine, posted on social media.
One of the most potent artillery pieces in the Bundeswehr’s arsenal, the Panzerhaubitze 2000 can strike targets up to 40 kilometres away (25 miles).
In addition to the five self-propelled howitzers that the Netherlands had provided, Germany committed to send Kyiv seven more in May.
The chief of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak, published a list of additional weapons that Germany had offered, including 500 shoulder-fired Stinger missiles, three MARS II multiple rocket launchers, and 30 Gepard tanks.
Kyiv has previously stated that in addition to other heavy weapons, it needed 1,000 howitzers, 500 tanks, and 1,000 drones to fend off Russian troops, who invaded the nation on February 24 and took over around 20% of its land.
The United States, Britain, France, Norway, and Poland are additional nations that have given Ukraine self-propelled and towed howitzers.
