Geoffrey Rush will get the top award at the Czech Film Festival

  • The 70-year-old Rush won the Academy Award for Best Actor for “Shine” in 1996.
  • Rush was also nominated for an Oscar for “Shakespeare in Love”, “Quills” and “The King’s Speech”.
  • Benicio del Toro, who won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in “Traffic”, will receive the Festival President’s Award.

Rush will receive the award at the Karlovy Vary film festival next month, organizers said on Tuesday.

Rush, 70, received the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1996 for “Shine.”

Rush was nominated for an Oscar for “Shakespeare in Love,” “Quills,” and “The King’s Speech” in addition to his role as Captain Barbossa in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie.

The Festival President’s Award will be presented to Benicio del Toro, who earned an Oscar for best supporting actor for his part in “Traffic.”

In other KVIFF news, the festival also unveiled the members of all its key juries.

This year’s edition will showcase 160 feature-length and short films across 13 sections, with 34 films being presented in world premiere.

The 56th edition of the festival will take place from July 1 to 9 in the western Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary.
