Last week, Border Patrol agents in California discovered $60,000 in methamphetamine hidden inside child booster seats.

Last Wednesday, agents from the Newton Azrak Border Patrol Station conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 15 just north of the station checkpoint.

The vehicle was occupied by two adults and their two children, according to US Customs and Border Protection. A Border Patrol K9 team, however, dispatched and alerted the agents to the potential presence of narcotics.

Agents discovered several packages containing a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine inside the children’s three booster seats.

The driver, a citizen of the United States, was discovered in possession of nearly 30 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $60,000.

However, the agents handed the driver and the drugs over to the Inland Crackdown Allied Taskforce for prosecution. The vehicle, however, seized by Border Patrol, and the mother and children released after investigation.

“Our agents continue to work around the clock to protect our communities,” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke said in a statement. “Drug smugglers will go to any length to get their poison onto our streets. Nothing, not even family, is sacred to them.”
