Sri Lankan PM Wickremesinghe begins talks with IMF delegation

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Monday began meetings with a visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) group.

Wickremesinghe’s media division stated in a news release that a 10-member IMF mission is in Sri Lanka for 10 days.

Sri Lanka is facing its greatest financial crisis since independence, and the IMF is in Sri Lanka to discuss a bailout deal.

In line with IMF policy, the IMF said again a few days ago that it would help Sri Lanka through this hard time.

Wickremesinghe previously stated that he anticipated the IMF visit would result in a swift staff-level agreement, noting that an IMF programme is essential for accessing bridging financing from institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
