KARACHI: As per unofficial results of 299 polling stations in NA-240 by-poll, candidate of Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Shahzada Shabbir is leading the election till filing of the report, Bol news reported.
Shahzada Shabbir bagged 10,272 votes, while candidate of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Muhammad Abu Bakr with 10,261 votes is runner-up with a very low margin. Muhajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidate Syed Muhammed Rafiuddin has secured third position with 8,233 votes.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Nasir Abdul Raheem is on fourth position with 4,936 votes and Pak Sarzameen Party Shabbir Qaimkhani candidate has grabbed fifth position with 4,541 votes.
It is pertinent here to mention that these are the unofficial results of 299 polling stations.
Twenty five candidates belonging to the MQM Pakistan, Pakistan Peoples Party, Grand Democratic Alliance, Pakistan Muslim League, Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Pak Sarzameen Party and eighteen independents took part in the election.

Strict security measures have been taken to maintain law and order in the constituency.
The seat fell vacant after the death of MQM-P MNA Muhammad Ali Khan on April 19, 2022.
A presiding officer was arrested for allegedly stealing ballot papers during the by polls for National Assembly’s NA-240 constituency in Karachi.
The incident happened at the polling station number 87 located at Jinnah School 36-B Zaman Town during the by-elections.
In a video that is making rounds on the internet, a person could be seen stealing a bunch of ballot papers and handing them over to another person from the window inside the room.
The incident took place at the office of the presiding officer. However, the police caught the person and confiscated the ballot book from him. The suspect who stole the ballot papers managed to escape from the scene of the incident.
According to District Returning Officer Nadeem Haider, the police have taken the presiding offer in their custody and taken a confessional statement from him. The presiding officer was replaced and the polling resumed.
Taking notice of firing and violence, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday directed police to strictly deal with the elements disturbing law and order in NA-240 constituency during by-election.
The Sindh chief minister directed the inspector general to arrest the miscreants who disturbed the election process.
“Nobody would be allowed to take the law into hands. Peaceful election environment should be maintained,” he said directing all the political parties participating in the election to remain peaceful.
A day before the by-election, significant developments surfaced as many independent candidates withdrew their nomination papers after other parties approached them. While some parties announced their support for the other contestants.
Notably, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) have already boycotted the process and after the withdrawal by many independent contestants, 15 candidates, including six from political parties, contested the NA-240 by-election. The constituency consists of the Landhi and Korangi areas.
According to the Election Commission Focal Person, 203 out of 309 polling stations had been declared as “sensitive,” requiring the installation of CCTV cameras.
