ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has won a terror-financing case brought in federal court in New York against the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), according to Attorney General’s Office sources.

Harold Brown Sr., the plaintiff, abandoned his action against the NBP, allowing the national bank to win the case.

According to Geo News, the national bank was accused a few years ago of aiding the transfer of monies used to organise and execute an attack on a US military installation in Afghanistan that killed nine American soldiers.

According to reports, if the NBP had lost the case, it would have faced billion-dollar fines and would have effectively gone bankrupt. According to AG Office sources, if the NBP had lost, Pakistan would have been in big trouble with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The AG Office’s International Disputes Unit was in charge of the matter. Ahmed Irfan was in charge of the group. The same team was involved in the Karkey, Reko Diq, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and Tuwairqi cases, all of which resulted in favourable conclusions.
