Cambodia arrests 2 for trafficking drugs

PHNOM PENH: The National Officers stated on Tuesday that Cambodia anti-drug police arrested two individuals for drug trafficking and seized more than 54 kg of illicit drugs from them.

After a months-long investigation, police detained the two men, a 31-year-old foreigner and a 26-year-old Cambodian native, in the capital Phnom Penh on Friday.

The National Police announced on its website that “a total of 54.4 kg of illicit drugs, including heroin, crystal methamphetamine, and ketamine, were confiscated from the suspects during the raid.”

Drug dealers in the Southeast Asian country do not face the death penalty. A person convicted of trafficking more than 80 grams of drugs can get a life sentence under the legislation.

In the first five months of this year, police detained 6,168 drug suspects, including 80 foreigners, seizing 1.58 tonnes of illegal substances and 173.6 tonnes of chemicals, as per the anti-drug police department.
