When Hulu revealed on Monday that the dystopian genius series The Handmaid’s Tale will return to the platform for a fifth season on September 14, fans let out a scream. In addition, the OTT platform released the first official stills from the upcoming season. The series, directed by Bruce Miller, is based on Margaret Atwood’s wildly popular novel of the same name.

Season 4 finished with June, played by Elisabeth Moss, and the other handmaids putting an end to Joseph Fiennes’ Fred and returning his wedding ring to his wife through the mail. The new photographs bring this attitude of retribution, with a furious June looking up in one still and Yvonne Strahovski, who is playing Fred’s wife Serena, smiling in a black shroud, probably at her husband’s funeral, in another.

For the unfamiliar, the official season 5 synopsis reads,  “June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence [Bradley Whitford] works with Aunt Lydia [Ann Dowd] as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke [O-T Fagbenle], and Moira [Samira Wiley] fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah [Jordana Blake].”
