President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has requested the West to deliver sophisticated missile defence systems to his nation.
Russia is continuing its eastward drive with tanks and artillery while simultaneously conducting air attacks; in support of its ground forces and against other targets.

President Zelensky revealed last night that Moscow had launched 2,606 missiles since the war began.
Ukraine does have a capable air defence system, including S-300 long-range surface-to-air missiles and shorter-range Buk-M1 SAMs. However, they are old Soviet-era systems, and Russia has been successful in striking and destroying some of them.
Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, shoulder-launched Manpads (Man-portable air defence systems); and UK Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles have all been given by the US.
To defend Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, Denmark has delivered modern Harpoon anti-ship missiles to supplement Ukraine’s homegrown Neptune systems.
Ukraine, on the other hand, is serious about improving its land-based air defences.
